Devotees read from the Ramayana, sing bhajans and offer a simple puja at the madhyahna (midday) hour. Many keep a light fast until noon and share panakam, a cooling jaggery drink, as prasad.

Rama is honoured as the embodiment of maryada, steadfast and gentle adherence to dharma. The day invites you to reflect on one way you can live your values more fully.

A fast is optional. Skip if pregnant, unwell, diabetic or on medication; a light sattvic meal is a complete observance too.
