Before you begin
- Lie on your back with a pillow under the knees, or on your side if that is more comfortable.
- Keep a light blanket nearby; the body cools as it rests.
- Falling asleep is fine; return whenever you notice.
- If any image or feeling is unsettling, open the eyes and rest with natural breath.
- Do not practise while driving or operating machinery.
Please choose a gentler practice, or ask your teacher first, if you have:
- Pregnancy in later stages (lie on the left side, not the back)
- Recent trauma or severe distress (practise with a qualified guide)
Not a substitute for medical advice.
Yoga Nidra, yogic sleep, is a guided practice of deep rest while awareness stays gently present. Lying still, you set a short resolve (sankalpa), move attention through the body, count the breath, sense opposite feelings and rest in simple images. You return slowly at the end, repeating your sankalpa.
What it supports
- Supports deep rest and relaxation
- Helps the body and mind unwind before sleep
- Brings a sense of renewal
