Monthly observance
Pradosh Vrat
प्रदोष व्रत
The thirteenth lunar day at dusk, sacred to Shiva: light a lamp and chant in the twilight window.
Why it matters
Pradosh falls on Trayodashi, the thirteenth lunar day, twice a month. Its heart is the pradosh kaal, the twilight window around sunset, which is traditionally held sacred to Shiva.

Devotees light a lamp, offer water or bilva leaves and chant Om Namah Shivaya during this window. When Pradosh falls on a Monday (Soma Pradosh) or Saturday (Shani Pradosh), it is held in special regard.
The threshold between day and night is a natural moment for prayer. A few quiet minutes at dusk carry the spirit of the observance.
A fast is optional. Skip if pregnant, unwell, diabetic or on medication; a light sattvic meal is a complete observance too.
