Why it matters

Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated on the new Moon of Kartika (amanta Ashwin). Its heart is Lakshmi Puja, traditionally performed in the pradosh window after sunset.

Homes are cleaned and decorated, rows of lamps are lit and Lakshmi and Ganesha are worshipped together for abundance and wisdom. Families share sweets, visit elders and give to those in need.

The lamps of Diwali light the darkest night of the month. The festival invites you to welcome light, order and generosity into your home and heart.
