Monthly observance
Purnima
पूर्णिमा
The full Moon: a night of fullness, gratitude and gentle devotion in the moonlight.
Why it matters
Purnima is the night the Moon is full, the high point of the lunar month. Tradition associates it with completeness, gratitude and clarity of mind.

Many households keep a Satyanarayana katha, visit a temple or simply sit in the moonlight with family. Several of the year's great festivals, including Guru Purnima and Sharad Purnima, fall on this day.
The Moon reflects the Sun's light, and Purnima invites you to reflect on what is already full in your life. A little water offered to the Moon, a shared sweet and a few quiet minutes of thanks honour the day well.
A fast is optional. Skip if pregnant, unwell, diabetic or on medication; a light sattvic meal is a complete observance too.
